Family 2 Hour, Sport 4 Hour, and Elite 10 Hour Adventure Races
About the Races
This will be a true Rogaine race with lots of strategy and multiple choices of how to approach and visit controls.
Race Format
We will have three races with 2 of them along the same course. You will be given a list of checkpoints and a map of all controls for both the sport and elite races. You will have a few rules of travel and then you are off. Elite racers will have 10 hours to collect as many control points as possible or possibly visit them all. Sport racers will have a point goal that they can collect by visiting a set of these controls and they can choose which ones to visit using strategy and their team strengths. It is true Rogaine and everyone will have fun.
We have reserved the River Forest Campground for both Friday and Saturday nights and all teams are welcome to camp both tents and RV’s at the race start location.
[Disciplines involved: Trekking, Biking, Paddling, Navigation, Orienteering]
Welcome to the BOAR. This unique adventure race presents a format a little different than most adventures races. There are no set “legs”, you can use any mode of travel to any checkpoint within the rules of the race. Here are those rules:
- No bike travel on the St. Francis Trail (orange line on map, white and blue blazes). You may travel the one section where the trail and the road coincide (far west).
- No travel of any kind on State Road 42.
- You may use canoes or kayaks however you desire, but they must be returned to the main TA when you are done using them.
Mandatory Checkpoints – There are 3 mandatory checkpoints for both races. These checkpoints must be obtained to be scored as completing the race. These are noted in the passport.
Elite Race – You objective is to get as many of the available checkpoints as possible within the 10 hour time limit and return to the Start/Finish
Sport Race – Your objective is to collect as many points as possible up to a maximum 24 points, which will be considered clearing the course, and return to the Start/Finish within 4 hours. Any points collected above 24 will not increase your overall score. Get 24 points and return.
Both 10 hour and 4 hour races will use the same map. Please note that checkpoints have different point values, but higher point values do indicate a higher level of difficulty in navigation and terrain. Total Maximum Score: 42
