Sport 4 Hour, and Elite 18 Hour Adventure Race
About the Race
The 2018 Earth Day Adventure Race is back! The same great race you are used to, but in a location very few of us have ever seen… Tate’s Hell.
See race updates below…
[Disciplines involved: Trekking, Biking, Paddling, Navigation, Orienteering]
Race Update (01)
The 3rd EDAR race will have another epic paddle this year. We will also be trying to give away that 4pc Epic paddle again. I can guarantee that it wont be the 4 of clubs. I have another idea I’m working on to award it. And remember that if you win it you have to hand your paddle down to somebody else, and so on.
The Sport race will involve biking to a remote boat start, so we will be transporting all you paddling gear. Paddle back, then do a foot segment. We will have a few UTM plotting CPs and a few of my special BONUS CPs.
As for the Elite, I haven’t quite figured out which of the paddles I like best. I’m pretty sure you will be in the boats at night. There will be some longer distances on the bike, but worth it. There might be some creek river crossings with your bikes. And certainly some “special tasks”. The will be some UTM plotting, as well as collecting clues along the way.
Elite teams that check in at the same time as the Sport teams will be given 1 point as a bonus, if they help the sport teams with their pre-race prep. I highly suggest that you actually look at the sport maps,
This will be a USARA Nationals qualifier.
I am in the process of reserving the entire campground and will have info for primitive camping for Friday and/or Saturday night of the race. We will have to limit the number of campers allowed.
Let me know if you think I should give out trees again this year.
Stay tuned for more updates, thanks Craig
Race Update (02)
Note – Camping is available for about $6 per team on Friday night, and free for the sport teams on Saturday night. There are bathrooms and showers, but there is no potable water, including the showers.
Race director Craig Sheriff promises a true adventure in true Florida Wilderness with all the usual surprises. This is also the first AR near this area – so explore some virgin territory.
This is true backwoods AR – You gotta love it – either race this or hear all the stories later!
The Elite race is a USARA Qualifier.
Location
Tate’s Hell, Womack Creek Campground (map)
Directions: The entrance from CR 67 is here. (You will love that last link).
Take US98 to Carabelle FL, and hop on CR67 North. Take a right on Rock Landing Road (no road sign, just a forest road entry sign – see that last link). Avoid gators and other wildlife and follow to Jeff Sanders Road, go left and follow to primitive campground. (for more of an adventure try lake Morality road to cut across from 98, if you have 4 wheel drive try Crooked River Road to CR67 and then turn right as soon as you get to Jeff Sanders Road – just sayin)

Please click to read the Event Rules.
Please click to read the Mandatory Gear.
Besides the mandatory gear Sport and Elite teams will also need to have a 1:24k UTM tool. One like this one, this one, this one, or this one.
If you need to brush up on your UTM plotting skills, please see this guide.
Please print and fill out the FLX Race Waiver (one per racer) and bring on race day, this will greatly speed up the check-in process.
